Default Urgent Help! - LMIA

Hi

i came back from visit to BC job hunting about 3 weeks now (i will share some updates on Canadian jobsearch at the soonest opportunity)

I have applied for jobs from UK and have a prospective employer very interested in my resume
Had an initial telephone screening interview this week (to my UK phone number), but they want to understand about the LMIA process a little more, especially the duration/fastest route, so she could advise the Hiring panel for the next phase of the shortlisting process!

I have been asked how long the process takes and I told them that the IRCC site suggests up 3 -4 months or possibly less, or alternatively i could turn up at POE for work permit application (which i am prepared to do).

I have checked IRCC site and it says that it is taking about 6 weeks, as of April 2019, to process work permits (providing application is completed correctly).

What i am not sure about is how long it takes for the LMIA part of the process to be completed before i could apply for work permit
Any ideas?

The Recruiter mentioned that there was an fast route for the LMIA but she couldn't remember what it was and is also keen to do her own research on LMIA

I did search on 'fast LMIA' for employers and discovered that the employer could do an EXPRESS ENTRY application for LMIA which offers the option of including supporting the employee with permanent residency, just work permit or both. I think this must be what she was referring to.https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-...permanent.html

the IRCC website also stated that the employer could proceed with hiring with the temporary permit prior to the PR coming through [img]data:image/png;base64,
Thanks in advance for relevant info

No idea what's happened with the wall of text above! Can you re-post it properly or give a link to it rather than trying to copy and paste from a website?

But the LMIA will take approx 3-4 months. There is a 10 day processing allegedly (for jobs that are eligible), but I don't know of anybody who's applied under that that's actually had it processed in anywhere near a time like that. So figure 3-4 months as a rough guide.

The LMIA for an EE PR app will take the same amount of time.

Has the employer already advertised the job nationally for the required amount of time? If so, that's great, but if not, then add another 4 weeks on to the process for that.

HTH.

Please remind me of the required time for ads?
It is a company that is expanding and has several vacant positions

Under 'positive LMIA' in this link https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-...permanent.html
it says LMIA letter can be used for both PR and work permit if the employer wants worker to start working before outcome of PR

Last month's work permits took 6 weeks!

4 weeks advertising. Must be in certain places and nationally - full details are on the ESDC website.

Yes, 6 weeks for work permits, but the LMIA is a separate process and that usually takes quite a bit longer.

An LMIA usually cost the employer approximately $1000, and they have to show proof that they have advertised nationally in the correct format, plus proof that there is no Canadian citizen or PR qualified or willing to take the position.

In some cases, it has taken 4-6 MONTHS for all this to be completed.
