Default Unable to renew work permit

Hi, I have a friend whose work permit expires on the 15th of December and the company he works for are unable to apply for another LMIA.

He has another job option ( we hope) but it will take a few weeks to sort. He was informed he could change his status online from temporary worker to visitor.. Has anyone been through this process?

Yeah I did it for the end of my IEC work permit. Just go online through CIC and pay $100. I had to upload proof of how I was going to support myself. I also included a cover letter explaining what I was going to be doing. Bam, approved in 2-3 days
