Default UK student loan disclosure

Hi all.

I'm really struggling to find an example online of the action to take here.

Being 30 with a degree I obviously have a uk student loan.

I have my ITA and planning on submitting this weekend.

I do not have any credit debt and have £10,000 in savings built up over a few years.

I also still owe £11,000 in student loans.

So I would like to know how other Brits have approached this. Lloyd's can do me a letter as per instructions which obviously won't include the loan.

It is visible on my pay slips and P45 that I am submitting.

Have people in the past explicitly highlighted these or just let it go?

Didn't you already ask this? I thought the conclusion was to just disclose the student loans? http://britishexpats.com/forum/immig...-loans-889642/

Wow... I don't actually remember doing that.

I think I'm really worried about disclosing it. I don't know what to do.

You don't get to choose which bits you like and which you don't.

'list all outstanding debts, such as credit cards and loans'

The 'all' bit might be a give-away?

Applications received on or after January 1, 2016, for permanent residence programs subject to the Express Entry completeness check

Proof of Funds - Documents required.

Perhaps include a statement from the lender with a letter of explanation of the debt and repayment terms.

I just wanted to find someone who had disclosed it in full but got PR regardless. I'm crying now just trying to come up with the right path

Why do you think it will even be an issue? It certainly won't stop you getting PR - unless you don't disclose it and are later found to have committed misrepresentation.

Because I'm not sure if they say I have +£10,000 in cash but -£11,000 in student loan so my net is -£1000, so not enough for the application.

I had a similar scenario in 2005 when I applied. I just explained the type of loan and provided info from the SLC website indicating the repayment terms (based on income).

Thank you so very much.

I'm assuming you were fsw and didn't also have an extra £10,000 to cover the loan as well? (Your net would have been below lico?)

A lot of Canadian immigration officers seem to view the student loans as more of a graduate tax.

Thank you - you'd hope after so many years officers will be aware of uk student loans and their conditions.

I have had a lot of mixed feedback with this as other countries don't have the same scheme the uk do (it's not a real loan, really) so they advise me to hide it.

Well obviously I don't want to lie, so I want to declare it. I just wanted confirmation that I am not putting my foot in it and that it won't count as a net loss of funds. If they argue it back I'm sure I can pull £11000 from some relative.

Lots of people apply with hundreds of thousands of pounds in debt in the form of a mortgage. As long as you've got the cash to support yourself, and your debts are structured, it's honestly not an issue.

Yes, but do people actually submit their mortgage statements or just the bank account balance?

You are worrying too much. All CIC want to do is check that you have the means to support yourself for a period of time. Providing the terms of a debt are such as not to utilise your savings very quickly, CIC are happy.

CIC are not interested in mortgages as far as I understand. Few people would move with so little in savings that should they run out of cash in a couple of months, they would default on a mortgage and suffer the consequences of that.
