UK nurse, now licensed to work in Canada-next step Express Entry.
Hi, I completed a the Bridging course last year for the College of Registered nurses in Nova Scotia and am now eligible for a licence to nurse there. I have put my application in Express Entry and score 416 points, I am waiting for an ITA. Does anyone know how long this takes? My course was a part time for the theory aspect but included a two month full time placement. I have put the placement down as education on my application but am unsure as to whether this would count as work experience? I would appreciate any info from people in similiar positions. I am able to get a licence now to work there so am keen to get a permit asap.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, at 416 points you’re not likely to get an invite anytime soon. The last time it went below 440 was approx 8 months ago, and the lowest it’s ever been was 413 over a year ago, but that was a bit of an anomaly due to rule changes.
There are are about 13,500 currently in the pool scoring 421 and above, so I don’t see you getting an ITA in the short term I’m afraid. But keep an eye on the points levels for the next set of draws and keep your fingers crossed they drop soon. You could always job hunt in the meantime to try and go over on a Temp Work Permit maybe?
You can’t count your placement as experience, but in any event only work experience of a year or more (full-time) has any benefit.
Hth, best of luck.

P.S. when is your next birthday and will your points score drop then? Or are you young enough to not lose any points?

Surely there's a chance of some sort of PNP from NS for this sort of thing. It just seems so wasteful otherwise.

Could I suggest having a look at NS PNP as Digital Ghost mentioned? There's a stream called "In Demand" category B - without a job offer - which is closed at present but opens and closes throughout the year - and having checked the 'in demand' occupations in the guide, Nurses were on it.
Certainly worth a try! https://novascotiaimmigration.com/mo...express-entry/

PNP is possible (when it finally reopens, and if she can apply in the brief window before it shuts again - usually less than 24 hrs) if the OP scores enough, but unfortunately her age is against her I think. Another option to look in to though, and might be worth asking in the main forums about chances of a job offer in NS, I don't know how likely it is for nurses but if she's able to work there already it might increase her chances?

A lot is going to depend where in NS they want to live. In certain areas there are shortages so employers may be willing to go the work permit route

Thanks everyone for the information. I will continue looking for jobs via the job bank and have a look at the 'In Demand' that some of you have mentioned here.

You could also look on Workopolis: https://www.workopolis.com/jobsearch...-scotia-canada
or Indeed: https://ca.indeed.com/Registered-Nur...in-Nova-Scotia
Do check the link I gave upthread for NS PNP, it may be a good option for you.

Thanks once again. I applied for four jobs last week and have already had a Skype interview for one of them. Don't know if I have been successful yet, waiting to hear on this. Hopefully it won't be too long! If I am successful and get offered the job does anyone know how long it takes to get through immigration from then? I am hoping it will speed the process up!

In this instance it may be faster for them to get you a TWP and then you can get PR later on. I'm sure the employer will be well versed in these matters though.

To answer your question of time ...... it is usually considered that an employer wanting to get an LMIA must have advertised across Canada to prove there is no Canadian candidate. That costs the employer approximately $1000 and takes about 6 months.
If that applies in your case, then it might be 6 months before you get to the point of getting near to the necessary visa.
Of course, it might also be that the employer has proof that there is no suitable Canadian candidate.
The question of time is one to be asked of the employer when they offer you the job.

Also make sure job is permanent full time when it is offered. Unions are big here in NS so even if you meet job requirements if someone already working there wants the job then they are offered it first. Took me a long time to understand that

That applies in BC as well, and probably all across the country. Nurses' unions seem to be very strong, and perhaps with reason.
I'm watching that Wettlaufer inquiry in Ontario with interest, and how she managed to escape quite a bit of censure because of the union's grievance policy.
