Default UK medical question

hi everyone!
First time poster here.

I have applied for Common-law visa for Canada on 13th of August (still waiting for AOR as Sydney office has quiet the backlog).
My question is in regards the medical exam:
i have lived in London for about 6 years, I had (still am to this day) signed with my local GP.
Problem is about two months ago I have moved to Edinburgh for work untill my visa gets approved and I should expect to undergo my medical in 1-2 months.
Looking at the Edinburgh clinic where I will have to do my medical, it says under the voice ‘what to bring’ GP DETAILS.
here is where I am in doubt: does this mean they want just the details of my GP (like number/address/email)?
I have not signed up with a GP in Edinburgh yet, should I do so ? Or this is not important ?

Thank you all

Just provide the details of your London GP.

And if you do register with one in Edinburgh your medical records are electronic and will follow you anyhow.

Except they’re not. Only a small percentage is recorded digitally. Most is still paper-based. I moved within London, registered with a new GP and my medical records were then lost in transit. The OP may be luckily but but I wouldn’t want to risk it and if she’s emigrating to Canada then it’s little point in doing so. The clinic can contact the GP in London as easily as it can one in Edinburgh.

Good point, but even if they're not digitsed they should still follow you to your next practice, negating the need to contact the old one.

The clinic will need to contact the GP regardless there’s no point in reregistering.

Hello and welcome to BE!

The medical that you have to undergo for Immigration purposes has to be with a Designated Panel Physician from the list of approved PP's as you know. Who your current GP is has no relevance and the PP is highly unlikely to contact them in any event - I think they only contact them if they find something seriously wrong that perhaps needs a follow up. If the follow up is purely for clearance for Immigration, then you would be referred to a specialist anyway. I wouldn't worry too much! I didn't have a GP and had the medical in Canada - nobody ever asked me for my GP's contact details. I suspect this might be specific to the clinic you have been in contact with. It might be worth checking a few different places out as they all appear to charge different prices - and don't forget to add on the cost of blood tests and chest xrays. I think it could well be nearer 6 months before you get a medical request if you haven't received AOR or Sponsor Approval yet.. and don't forget that the medical is only valid for 12 months, so the later it comes in the process the better - no risk of it expiring and having to do another one, that way.

How can I find a doctor to do my immigration medical exam?
For Edinburgh there are 2 but you don't have to go to that clinic, you can go to any PP on the list, anywhere in the world.
