Travle Document in Lieu of PR Card
Dear Experts,
Is there a travel document in lieu of PR Card or do i need to apply for any kind of a travel permit if I wanted to travel to the United States by car after 30 December 2003. and have not received my PR card by then?
I have applied for the PR card this month but it after reading other posts in this forum, it doesnt seem as though I will get the Card in time, or will I ? I have to travel to the U.S. in January for some business related work.
Thanks and Regards
kdog

You don't need your Pr card to travel to the US. If you are a citizen from
a non-visa waiver country, you will require a visa to visit US. You require
a PR Card to return to Canada by commercial carrier after 01/01/04 or a
facilitation visa issued by CHC.

On the CIC's PR card website, they are saying to get your application in by Sept. 30 if you want your card by the end of the year. So I guess they seem to think they can finish them all up by then, but I doubt there is any guarantee. I am sure glad I went ahead and did mine last year before the big rush started!

At any US Consulate in Canada or abroad.
Check the rules and locations of various US consulates on the US-DoS website.

What is this facilitation visa?
I'm a landed immigrant myself since Feb 02. I left the country two months
later due to the bad economical conditions. Now I plan to return, and
obviously, I don't have the PR card yet (only the old form). If I'm not
wrong, under the new law, I will keep my PR status until Apr 2005. Now, my
question, will I need any special visa to enter Canada after Jan 04 (and
resume my life there as landed immigrant)?
Thanks.

on the CIC website for PR card it also says that you only need the card if travelling by a commercial carrier (plane, bus, train etc). So if I am travelling across the border using my personal car do i still need the card or can I just use my landing paper until i get the card.?

Therefore, the old IMM1000 is enough even after 01.01.04?
Thanks

Re: Travle Document in Lieu of PR Card
Only if you drive or walk from US.
If you use any commercial carrier (bus, train, plane, ferry, etc.) you'll
need a PR Card.

Excuse me, Mr. Miller, but that sounds absolutely silly.
The law says that I'll hold until Apr 05 my PR status. Nevertheless, I
can't enter the country because I don't have a card that only can be
obtained in Canada. Oh, but if I walk into Canada instead of catching a
plane as everybody does, it is fine.
?????????
What if I just pose as a tourist and once in Canada get the d**m card?
