true but as per OP this is a renewal and having reread the OP myself the OP said they were planning use fasttrack anyway so all good. Dont think the OP was planning to get a UK one for the new born on this trip as they have a Canadian passport and as you say cannot fast track an initial one just seemed focussed on the wifes near expiry UK one.

For your child, carry the childs birth certificate on you (long one that shows you as the parents), present with their Canadian passport in the UK citizens line and say the child is a UK citizen just without a passport. Another forum member (Pizzawheel iirc) just did this and had no problems, although his sprog had an expired UK passport.

You shouldn't have a problem taking your child in the UK citizens line with you, because they are a British citizen regardless of whether they have a passport or not.

Your wife's passport is fine since she is a UK citizen going back to UK. Just renew it while you are there and you shouldn't have a problem.
