Travel Document not here yet...

Travel Document not here yet...
I finally got my PR late July and am in England at the moment. As I hadn't received my PR card I had to travel down to London to hand in my application for a Travel Document at the Embassy.
I went down on Monday........ Yes, I know, public holiday in Canada.
Anyway, posted it and it was received on Tuesday - I am supposed to fly back on Saturday, and the postman has been already today so I have only one more chance!
Do I have any options apart from staying until it comes through, or is it possible to travel without one?
Anyone have any thoughts/experiences - or a number for the London Embassy where I can actually speak to a real person?
