Default Tourist Visa -> Temp Workers Visa

We (me, my wife and kids) are thinking about immigrating to Quebec but we
want to really know this country before and we don't want to take our
decision after a short touristical stay, we will know nothing about Quebec
that way. So, we would like to stay several months but we need to work part
time. We can't afford to stay to long without working.

From the place I live (France) I have no chance to find a job (by
email, phone, whatever) but I'm pretty confident that I would succeed if I
would be in Canada.
So, I asked to the immigration services if it's possible to switch from a
tourist visa to a temporary worker visa (1 year max). They said YES but you
have to leave the Canada territory and do the visa procedure from the
outside of the country (USA, France).

Is it true ? Is it the only solution ?

Thank you for your help.

You cannot apply for work permit inside Canada, unless you are already here
on valid work or study permit. In all other cases application must be
submitted through the proper visa post outside Canada.

Really ? From there it doesn't seems to be so easy.
The whole procedure is 10 months long, I have to provide a lot of
informations and some of them are quite old and may be lost (strange proofs
of employment the immigration service doesn't take payroll into account,
they want something else that will be hard to find so many times after,
they want school notation, I had my degree 25 years ago and these infos are
certainly lost, ...)

But, I must admit that I really don't know nothing about the canadian
immigration policy toward french people. You heard some infos about any
kind of "facilities" or "preference" ??

Thank you for your answer

Sumatra is an unknown quantity at this point

Qc certanly wants more immigrants from France but still you have to have enough points, clear background and provide enough evidence. However if you plan to live and work in Montreal/Laval advanced knowledge of english is also required. You can visit www.immigrer-contact.com and www.immigrer.com
