Hi

I have been reading the whys and wherefores on Goods to Follow and wanted to ask a question:-

If tools are deemed for work purposes as opposed to, for DIY use, what happens? How much would the import duty be? How do they calculate it?

The reason I ask is because my hubby has certain tools, that I think, will be obviously used for work !

It would not be much of a problem to sell and buy new when we get there, I was just curious as to what happens if you wanted to bring them.

Thank you Bemsee

Calculations are done on fair market value. Duty would be minimal but would attract the HST or GST & PST on the Canadian value. CBSA officer will decide to collect or not. Hand tools probably not industrial sized tools probably.

Thanks FL I knew you would know !

I think the plan will be to keep his hand tools (some of them really old and some even been passed down) and sell all his 110v power tools. I have done some research on prices to replace in Canada and its not too harsh in fact some work out a bit cheaper

Ho hum still waiting on PR but they say it comes to those who wait !

Don't they? lol
