Time line
Handed applications for Permanent Residence (P/R) in at CIC Canadian High
Commission, Pretoria, South Africa on 30 May 2001
Left South Africa for Canada during October 2001 (work permit) and ask for
P/R file to be transferred to Buffalo, USA (the nearest office to Halifax)
File arrived in Buffalo, USA on 29 November 2001 and processing of file
began on 20 December 2001 (as per e-file status on CIC website)
January 2002 we received a letter from CIC, Buffalo stating that we will
receive the results of the assessment within 30 weeks. (August 2002)
During August 2002 we receive a letter from Buffalo once again, dated 14
August 2002, stating that the large volumes of files being processed at
their office, they had not been able to process our file as quickly as they
had anticipated, and that we will hear from them in the coming months (no
date given)
At the beginning of January 2003 we received a letter once again dated 27
December 2002, advising us that we will have to attend an interview at the
Canadian Consulate General in Los Angeles and that it could take 7 to 10
months before we are notified. There were medical forms attached with a
note, that as soon as we receive a date for the interview, we should go for
the medical examinations so that the results will be available by the time
we attend the interview.
About two weeks later (22 January 2003) we received another letter with new
forms to be filled in which we had to send back within 60 days. The reason
given was that insufficient information had been given in our previous
application in order for them to perform mandatory background checks (this
after an immigration official checked all the forms when we handed them in,
they were processed in Buffalo for over a year and we had already been told
to go for an interview???) These new forms only differed slightly from the
forms we had completed in full previously.
On 22 July 2003 new IRPA forms arrived from New York, fill in and send to
New York.( 100% same as previous forms)
Still waiting!!!
