Re: TFW/LMO Suspended for Food Services
I know plenty of Canadians who work in ski resorts and they have all the good jobs from Ski Patrol to Managers. Working in a ski resort sucks because it's seasonal you need IEC workers because they will stick around for the winter then leave to either travel or back home. Whereas the Canadians are out of a job and claiming EI, which happens a lot, a fair few of my climbing buddies work Ski Patrol in the winter and just claim EI in the summer and go climbing.

Indeed
I know a fair few CDN youngsters who live travelling the country for seasonal work. I do accept that they are not representative of the mainstream .
They specifically avoid the resorts out West for the winter *because* of the IECers. Not because they're xenophobic, but because they know (or at least believe) they won't get a look in to the basic jobs. Rightly or wrongly, they perceive the employers involved as biased against Canadians, in that they perceive the IECers as being "cheaper" for employers...

I also spent late summer last year and into April of this year up until a couple weeks ago, submitting resumes to jobs in Whistler, and I have yet to ever get a call for an interview and some of these places continue to post hiring ads.
I was tempted to submit a fake resume making myself look like I am from another country to see if I could get a reply, but I am not going to go that far...
But based on my experience, and talking to a few others who have failed to find work in Whistler despite being qualified, it does seem like there is a bias towards Canadian workers there.

Maybe require those coming in to actually work in places with a true labor shortage, and restrict them to those area's.
"Government data, however, indicates that more than three times as many foreigners come to Canada under the program than the other way around."

Seems there needs to be some restrictions though considering the article states 3 times more people come to Canada, then Canadian's going elsewhere.

It's ok if they get rid of IEC for all countries, the Brits and Irish will just head to NZ and Australia and then they will get fed up with it but I think It's more equal in numbers that participate in those WHV between the countries.
Maybe they need to look at the quotas for all countries...

I just put in a CEC PR application under NOC Code 6316/6216 which is on that list. Makes me nervous.

Administrative assistants (NOC 1241)

Oh ok, so I should be ok then? My app was received March 27th and I got my AOR on April 24th I think it was.
I also don't get why depending on which list I look at my NOC changes from 6216 to 6316. I applied under 6316 anyway.
Anyway, sorry for hijacking this thread!

I count 2 jobs that deal with food but is a butcher or baker really part of the problem areas that are drawing criticism.
I said in a previous post that I expect the hotel/motel industry the next to come under scrutiny and one can say there are several jobs on that list that confirm this.
Now we have some clearer answers employers and employees now have a clearer picture of the moratorium except for the when and if the moratorium will be lifted and if certain jobs will be added or removed from the list.
