Default Tenuous Relationship

All,

I think I know the answer to this already, but can I claim an adaptability
points for my Dads Mums Brothers Daughter who is a Canadian Citizen (Auntie
once removed)?

Also, having totalled up my eligibility points I find that I score 73 :-(
(this is why I'm clutching at the tenuous relationship points!).

My background is a 4 year apprentiship in Electronics with 4 years
experience (safety and security systems). I am also a senior commercial
computer programmer with 5 years experience in various languages, but no
formal qualifications. I intend to use my electronics qualifications and
experience for the required points on my application. I have a common law
partner (to be Wife in June next year) who has completed a 3 year Bachelors
degree in teaching and has 2 years teaching experience. We have friends in
BC that are willing to give us a signed declaration that states they will
house us and financially support us when we immigrate.

In the considered opinions of the people of this NG, do any of you think it
likely that a PR visa will be granted to us, or are we wasting our time
applying at this moment?

Thanks for reading this far.
Thanks in advance for taking the time reply.

Regards,

Paul.

Cousins (not even 1st ones) are not giving any points for relatives in
Canada, sorry.

You have no chance with 73 points. Get HRDC approved job offer and then you
will have a chance.

To put it bluntly...not a chance, sorry.

This is not good. However, if you can get a legitimate and approved job
offer, that should get your points. Based on your experience, while it may
be a little difficult, it certainly shouldn't be impossible.

Good luck and best wishes.

Sorry to keep dragging this one out guys, but:

I've just read a little deeper into "Factor 5: Arranged Employment" in the
Skilled worker handbook, and it would seem to suggest that if I were to get
a permanent job offer (based on my application being successful) then I
could claim 10 more points for adaptability.

If I have read this correctly as well, that job offer doesn't have to be
approved by HRDC (something I've been told is VERY difficult). (Page 10. 3rd
box down. Second bullet point on the right).

Regards,

Paul.

Looks like you are not reading it correctly at all - Page 10, Factor 5
(Arranged Employment), third Box says exactly as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------
IF:
You do not currently have a work permit and you do not intend to work in
Canada before you have been issued a permanent resident visa.

AND:
- You have a full-time job offer that has been confirmed by Human Resources
Development Canada (HRDC);
- Your employer has made an offer to give you a permanent job if your
application is successful.
- You meet all required Canadian licensing or regulatory standards
associated with the job.

Note:
- You cannot arrange for an HRDC confirmation. Your employer must do this.
- HRDC will confirm job offers for occupations listed in Skill Type 0 or
Skill Level A or B of the NOC.
----------------------------------------------------------

What part of "full time job offer that has been confirmed by HRDC" you don't
understand?

In order to get points in the above situation job offer must have positive
Arranged Employment Opinion from HRDC, period.
