You have to get a solicitor to notorize a formal letter. I called a solicitor to get advice on what we should write and then he signed it for us. Ex and yourself have to be there to sign also.

Who is this for? If it is for CIC, I believe they require a Court Order or a statutory declaration from your ex.

If it is simply for travelling to Canada, a notarized letter will suffice. For either, only the person granting permission needs to execute it.

She starts off by saying she is moving to Canada. To me that means living here permanently as a PR or on a TWP for some time. If becoming a PR then she will have been issued COPR forms and had to provide such documentation for them to be issued.

I had to get this letter done in 2007 and only needed it to be notorized by a lawyer.
Mind you I was never married to the father and my child had my surname so I don't know if this makes a difference.
Best to check and get advice from a lawyer.

Just to clarify, my 16 year old is from 1st marriage and father a Brit, my younger two are from current marriage to Canadian who we are going out to join, I am going for my PR but have been advised by immigration in Lethbridge to do it when we get there as it is a spousal sponsorship we are applying for.

So do I need to get this letter of permission signed by solicitor???

Personally I would as you will only be classed as a visitor until the PR is approved.
