Default Study permits

Hi all,

we are due to move to Alberta in a couple of months, my Husband has a study permit and my spousal open work permit is currently in process. Will our primary school aged children require study permits? I have seen conflicting information that they can attend school on visitor visas and so initially we didn’t apply for permits for them. Is this right?

thanks!

They don't need study permits unless they are post secondary. You will need to ask for Visitor Records for them when you arrive. (i.e. not just the stamp in their passports)... you will ask for those on the back of the Study Permit / SOWP which will be issued on arrival (you only recieve a LOI in advance, to present to Immigration on arrival).

As an aside - as you are not moving to Canada, but are entering temporarily on a study permit- perhap with a plan to move here permanently, you may want to have a read over the various wiki sections - including the goods to follow for Temporary residents https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Categ...gistics-Canada

Have you received an exemption to travel - written authorisation? You will need one for you and the children to get on the plane, and on arrival (together with a plan for quarantine etc.,) https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...ons.html#other

oh wow what a relief, thank you for confirming!! I have been so stressed out that we havent applied for study permits for my sons I was worried they wouldnt be allowed to attend school.

Thank you for all of the extra info, we have literally gone through all the covid related business with a fine tooth comb! Got our airbnb booked to quarantine and written out an isolation plan so hopefully ok on that front 😄
