Hi we are now in Ottawa and loving it so far, everything has just fallen into place
My eldest daughter is 18 and is here with us on a visitor visa, myself and her father have 2 year temporary work permits. She left high school a year early in the UK and went to sports college. Now we are in Canada she attends adult high school full time in order to gain a Canadian diploma to get her credits for University. As she had a break in her secondary education we were told she needed a study permit. We applied for this and it arrived yesterday.
She has been volunteering at a local gymnastics club and they have offered her a paid coaching position. We thought that she would be allowed to work up to 20 hours 'off campus' with her study permit however it states at the bottom that she is not permitted to work 'off campus'.
I have tried to call cic to ask if she now needs a work permit but cant get through at any time of the day. Does anyone have any advice? Its not a big problem as she is quite happy just to volunteer but it would be nice for her to have some money of her own coming in to make her feel more settled.

Thank you when we do the questionnaire it states she can work off campus if we get her a sin number so we are confused as to why her study permit states otherwise

You mention her studying at an 'adult high school' so is that to get her high school diploma or something else? And what's the name of the college/school, is it definitely on the DLI?

You are only able to work off campus while studying if your SP does not have the remarks that your SP does at the bottom. You won't be able to get a SIN with those remarks. The conditions would need to be removed.
An academic program of Study needs to be full time plus post secondary to allow for off campus work and it doesn't sound as if the one your daughter is studying is post sec so I doubt you'll be able to get the conditions removed.
Be very very careful volunteering. It sounds to me as if what your daughter is doing could potentially be seen as taking an opportunity away from a Canadian or PR if they said they'd pay her. You may be creating problems for the future.
Possibility: your daughter applies for a chance for an IEC WP when the new season opens. You can hold both an SP and a WP under IEC.

That could be the problem she is working towards getting credits for University but it may not be classed as post secondary here. We had no idea about the volunteering conditions thank you so much for pointing that out. We have been in touch with the club to say we will have to withdraw any volunteering in the meantime until we can get something sorted, we don't want to risk any trouble.

Take a look at CIC's examination of the definition of "work":
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/about.asp
Then you can decide. ☺
IEC might be an answer or when your daughter goes into post secondary and gets another Study Permit.
