Study Permit - Help!!!!!

Hi All

I really need some advice - please!

I originally applied under the simplied application a couple of years ago as the waiting time back then for processing was 4 years. However at the end of last year we were asked for our updated paperwork, but I had not completed my degree by then, so had to withdraw our application.

The only other way I can now think of getting into Canada is via the study route. So here my dilema begins....

I have applied to a college for a one year certificate program, which would then give me a one year post-grad work permit in which I hope to find a job.

However, I contacted 3 immigration consultants and one told me that I would probably be refused a study permit by CHC as they don't really give out one year permits now as it is too obvious that people are just using this as a stepping stone to getting PR. He said he was basing this on what had happened to his clients recently. however I thought the issue of 'dual intent' would apply for us here.

So I need to know if this is the case? Has anyone reading this been refused a one yr permit?

Also once I have been accepted by the college, how soon can I apply for a study permit?

Sorry for the waffle but any help is really appreciated.
