Can anyone tell me if i need to change my daughter's status in Canada?
We arrived Oct 08 after hubby got a TWP. One of my daughters who was 17 at the time, applied for a Study permit which was granted for the three year duration of hubby's TWP. She would have preferred to work but due to the hassles with obtaining LMO approval etc, thought she would do a course until we knew if we were going to stay in Canada and apply for PR.
When she looked into courses available they all were starting around $10-15,000 as she would be classed as an international student.
Instead she has completed a Home study course and is now waiting patiently for PR to come thru so that she can legally work in Canada.
I posted a thread on Canada Maple leaf site today, and it was questioned on whether i needed to change my daughters status in Canada. It had never occured to me before but i am now wondering if this is the case?

No, a study permit is just a visitor's record, with permission to study. There is no need to change her permit. I was lead to believe that it was only a spouse that could apply for an Open Work permit. This solves so many problems for us and i am so grateful for your advice.

hi pmm do you have any more info on this ie: what forms to fill out if in ontario already , where to send the forms, or where to go to get one of these but not port of entry, i did notice it said you can get them at a mission , whats a mission. :thumbup:

You may want to put a cover letter referencing the Operations Bulletin. Online it will take 50 days, so I would go down to a Port of Entry and apply for the work permit. Print off a copy of the operations bulletin. The POE may not be familiar with it.
