Talking Starting a business on an IEC Visa

Hi all

Calgary resident here, can any of you tell me whether or not it is possible to start a sole trader/self employed business whilst on an IEC visa? and does anyone have any experience in establish such a business in Alberta?

To answer the obvious question yes I have of course conducted internet searches and looked around on the gc.ca website but for the life of me I cannot find anyconfirmation of whether an IEC visa can or cannot start a business. It is quite clear that I cannot engage in sex work though so I'm glad that issue has been cleared up.

Short answer is yes you could. The work permit authorizes you to work except in certain occupations and starting a business isn't one unless of course it was in the sex trade or working with children or other vulnerable persons.

An excellent point, I see this business as occurring in the background and not taking on a full time role
