Default Sputum Smears....

Just a super quicky because I am going mad - who does these if CIC request them - the hospital or the DMP who did the original immigration medical exam?

The request for the work would have to come from the medical practitioner as he/she would need to send the results back. However, I think that all of the labwork in NS is done by the hospital in Halifax (VG site) or the IWK for kids. You would take the requisition form the doctor to the hospital but get the work done there.

Could that be where the confusion lies?

Yes it would appear so. After another, more forceful chat with the receptionist she actually asked someone who did know what happened and it is all sorted now! Many thanks Lynn.

You go back to the original DMP, we used a local lab by us in Bolton, you collect the samples on three consecutive days, day 1 and 2 you store in the fridge. Take samples and paperwork to the lab, doctors, or hospital and they do the rest.

The samples are a bit hard to collect you have to cough very hard and try to get something 'up'. This is done first thing in the morning before eating, drinking or brushing teeth.

The lab have to grow the samples for six weeks if something grows in that time they can stop and send the results to your DMP, if nothing happens at the six week mark, the samples have to be grown for the full eight weeks.

If you have to have a repeat x ray CIC will state the earliest date you can have this done.

Hope that helps....

Charlie
