Default Spousal sponsorship via Paris - query on timeline

Apologies, but this is a minor complaint and query. I sent my application into the Paris office in February, and all seemed well. On 6th June, I got a letter, asking where I had lived when I lived in Oman and Libya - I had explained this in my covering letter. I immediately replied and explained that I didn't have 'an address' in either country, as I was 'just' working there and in company accommodation which could change weekly. I was never resident and always spent a few weeks in a different location and then came out and back home. I sent a Police Certificate for both the UK and France, but I wasn't in either Oman or Libya for six months solid at any time and was still either resident in either the UK or France - I've had the same address in France for over 20 years. Oman was over 20 years ago, and Libya was 15! I have been a boring, and bored, French housewife for the last 12 years. Now I have just total silence - is this normal? Have I gone back to the bottom of the pile perhaps?

My minor complaint is that my old boss - Libyan - I worked for Agip Oil in Libya - rang me last week and when I told him I was planning on moving to Canada, told me that four of his kids have Canadian passports now! Plus my husband rang me today from Tanzania and said that one of his co-pilots has married a dial a bride and after two months she is moving to Canada. I don't know the individual details, but I am just feeling somewhat hacked off.

It's bizarre - I've been with my husband 17 years. Our son is ten. Are they going to refuse my residency do you think? I've never done anything dodgy, other than work abroad?

I've looked at timelines on all sort of posts on here and mine really does seem a bit iffy....

Unless you are a gun runner or some such you will not be refused. Just humor them in Paris. They need details to ensure you are not somehow supporting terrorism. Laughable yes, but everyone goes through it.

Jim, thank you so much for your kind words - my brain tells me this is probably the situation, but the heart gets in the way! It's not helped by they fact that one hears such decidedly dodgy people, who seem to be welcomed all over the world with open arms. Very many thanks.

Oh no!!! So sorry to hear that you are still waiting!! I suppose one way to look at it is that you are still within the 9 months quoted...........but not easy when you are sat waiting!!

They are obviously working on your file, with them asking questions re Oman and Libya - you have sent them all the info, so all you can do.

Took them just over a month - about 5 weeks till i next heard from them when they asked me for more info - hope you hear something soon.......

Oh Caleo, bless you! Yes, it just seems to be a big impasse. A great big wait, which shouldn't matter to us - because like you, we aren't planning to leave till summer 2012, when David finishes Primary school, but somehow it does matter?
On the positive front, rather than do anything too terrible - like plunge myself into cupboards crammed with God knows what, I have been on a diet and lost 8kgs, and am doing a Microsoft Specialist Course, so I should be feeling and looking great about getting temp work when we get there. Also, heaven help us, bought a puppy!! a Cairn terrier - so yes more cost involved in moving, but I don't care, we'd been dogless for a year, since our elderly friend departed, and we were all feeling the loss. Our son is now delighted - he'd started to hate Canada, because everything was put on hold till we got there (we can't get a dog till we move to Canada) and is feeling much more positive now - the cat's don't seem too keen on the little jolly dog, but I'm sincerely hoping entente may become somewhat more cordiale in the future.

Jim - Caleo, - I don't believe it, you two have worked as my lucky star, thank you so much!! I got it!!!! Today!! I got my request for my passport!!! This has been bothering me for a while now. I can't believe it has finally come. I danced around the kitchen and our son looks most confused, as he really can't see what the fuss it about, he was heading for Canada anyway!

Lots and lots of best wishes!

MillieF, congratulations, you can start planning your new life in Canada. At least you have some time to sort the moving details out. We too bought a puppy to keep us busy while we wait for our visas. She's a beautiful cocker spaniel and our cats seeming to be coping pretty well.

You can really start celebrating now

Congratulations millie!!! Now you can stop believing "they" had something against you

So pleased - I know what you mean about the waiting, even if you have enough time to wait, you just want it all finalised.

Love your sons reaction, the children don't have a clue, do they? Lovely for you having the dog, and I am sure it will be a great friend for your son when settling in your new life in Canada.

The trouble with spousal cases is they are submitted with everything needed already there. The visa office has little reason to communicate and then its normally nothing but silence until the big day they ask for your passport. You received a letter so at least you knew they were working on it. Then the silence again until the lucky day. Congrats.

Congratulations Millie, me and Ed both wish you the very best in your new life in Canada, sending our application next week, was suppose to be this coming weekend but our marriage certificate had not come through (that we had to order again) because of the strike, and had to redo my immigration photos because i realised the background was grey not white, so sent those off today to Ed.

Yay cant wait!!!

Oh thank you all so much for your kind responses. I can get on with life now, as I've got lots of time before I need to go into panic mode - Thank God for you lot on here! I would have burst without someone to tell! Nobody else is much interested. God bless us one and all!
