When applying to sponsor your spouse, how much attention is paid to the sponsor's income?
I ask because my Canadian husband wants to sponsor me, but over the past 12 months he has only worked part time as he is at university.
I have read that to sponsor a spouse one must have earned a min of $22k in the previous year. My husband works part time as a bar tender and last year only made approx $14k, but an additional $8k in tips. Are these tips taken into account if he declares them on his application?

Thanks, any light shed on this would be REALLY appreciated.

Hi Sophie,
As far as I am aware, a spouse doesn't have to fulfil financial requirements in order to be approved as your sponsor. He does have to submit details of his income, but doesn't have to meet the 'Low income cut-off' criteria (LICO)

Cheers,
CN
