Default Sponsoring parents while they are in Canada with a visitor visa

Hello Experts,

I know someone who, a few years ago, sponsored his parents' PR from
inside the Canada while they were in Canada on a visitor visa.

My wife and I are thinking of doing the same thing for her parents;
i.e. start a family sponsorship application for them the next time
they come here with a visitor visa.

Can you tell me whether we can do this under the new law?

Thanks in advance
George

No, it is not possible - only spouses and common-law spouses or partners are
eligible for inland sponsorship.

But it may be tried on the Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds if parents
are in danger of being prosecuted for their views in home country or when
there is a war in their country, etc. - but very small fraction of such
applications are ever accepted for inland process, so unless they really are
in great danger when returning home you have no chance.
