Sponsored by family member

Hi all, new to all this and currently just thinking about moving to Canada. My daughter currently lives in BC and is a permanent resident and is in the process of applying for her citizenship. Does anyone know how long she has to have full citizenship before she can sponsor me to come across? This will be first of many questions no doubt :)

Kind regards

Maxine

She doesn't need to be a Canadian citizen

Yep, as FL has said, she can sponsor you as a PR. She just needs to meet the minimum income amount etc.

HTH and welcome to BE.

1. The OP should note that her daughter would have to receive an invitation through the PGP program, before she could apply for her.

Note:

The 2020 interest to sponsor form is now closed

The first step to sponsor your parents or grandparents is filling out the interest to sponsor form. The form was available:
  • from noon EDT on October 13, 2020
  • to noon EST on November 3, 2020
The form is now closed and will stay closed.

The steps to apply to sponsor your parents and grandparents are a bit different for the 2021 process. We’ll invite enough people from the remaining 2020 pool of potential sponsors with the goal of accepting 30,000 new applications. We won’t open a new interest to sponsor form in 2021.

2. The OP might want to explore the Supervisa, where she could visit in Canada for up to 2 years at a time.

I'd suggest your daughter start to collect any documentation she might need for 2022 - though it may be a while until it starts :)

Thank you for this helpful info, I was totally unaware that it had changed. A Supervisa would be ideal if I had no plans to work and I don't think I would be allowed to on this type of VISA
