Son's Girlfriend
Hi There,
My son's girlfriend is from Taiwan and here on a 12 month working holiday visa.
She is due to leave in February. They have been dating since May and are now in a panic because she'll have to leave.
Does anyone know if her visa could be extended at all?
She is currently a server at a Lake Louise resort.
Any help or info or a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks

She must submit an application to extend her stay as a visitor. Unless she gets a LMIA she won't be able to work but could extend stay as a visitor

As above. After that I'm guessing you're probably also looking for options?
In which case you have common law/marriage/study/him going to Taiwan/can she get another working holiday visa options (not sure what Taiwan's rules are)

Re: Son's Girlfriend
Taiwan get a single 12 month participation (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...angements.html)
So if she wants to stay longer and work, she's going to need to immigrate (unless Lake Louise can prove they can't hire servers locally). She can ask to stay longer as a visitor. Longer term, if your son is a PR/citizen & they get married/live together 12 months, he can sponsor her.

Getting another girlfriend is likley less effort.

They could both apply for a WHV elsewhere e.g. Australia. She could also apply to study in Canada but that's expensive and will take time to organize.

Re: Son's Girlfriend
Her job is an eligible occupation under the Alberta PNP Semi-Skilled Stream, so if she meets the other requirements she could apply for PR that way? Semi-Skilled Worker Criteria | Alberta Canada - Alberta, Canada
Once she's at a certain stage of the application she can then apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit which would mean she could stay in Canada and keep working whilst her PR app is processed.
HTH.

Thanks for all your replies. It has given some info/pointers. I'll speak to them.
He's 28 so not a lovesick teenager as such but is serious about her.

I'm probably teaching you to suck eggs, but do point out to them that this is a matter of urgency, they need to get something sorted asap if she wants to stay past Feb. They need to get an application in for whatever she is eligible for (if anything) urgently, so time is of the essence. Crack that whip and get them on it today!
