Default Some questions on preparing immigration material

Hi,

I¡¯m preparing to apply for the PR in Canada, could you help me on some questions?

(1) I have one-year full time work experience as a research fellow in a university in Singapore. The research is on Finance. The document said that ¡°applicant¡¯s work experience must be in occupations listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) under Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A and B;¡±. How can I know the position be qualified? Is an economist qualified?
(2) How many reference letters required from my previous employer? Should I get it from the human resource department or my supervisor? Are there any samples or rules to write the reference letter?
(3) My score is 71 now if my English skills are high proficiency. However, I did not take the IELTS yet. The IELTS nearby the Toronto is full and the latest available will be the beginning of the March of the next year. I do not want to wait so long time. I can get additional 5 score after next June. I¡¯m not sure if I can appeal the immigration office to rejudge if my application is rejected after next June.
(4) ¡°The Certificate of No Criminal Conviction¡± in Singapore requires ¡°Documentary proof from the immigration authority requiring the certificate¡±. In such case, I cannot submit the certificate together with the immigration material.

Thank you very much!!!

yes economist should be qualified...when it comes to irpa rules...the
job list is very wide.

skill code 4122...for teaching assistant, graduate assistant...
post - doc etc....all university related occupations.
search a bit more the codes should be 41XX

the job description by hrdc for 4122 is very generic...can easily fit there.

you may also look at the 11XX codes as well, meant for professional
occupation in business and finance...

But I think 41XX is best fitting for university setting.

look at job decription of what you get in letters and see the hrdc
web page.

one is good enough. you have to give certified copies of the original
letters.
get letters both from HR as well as supervisor. get their visiting cards
as well.

the letters should describe
position
duration
salary (to prove it was paid work epxerience)
was it full time or not. if possible what full time means...how many
hours per week.

and yes the job descriptionand what duties you did...more detailed
the better.
have a look at hrdc noc descriptions.

with new rules langauge test is mandatory if you are not native
speaker. getting 7 in all section is not that easy.

I think that can be added later as well. not sure though...havnt done R
and D in this area.

where are u located. in canada? on the whole a good agent might help
you in prepapring the papers. mr miller and others are in this group.

However even if you take the help of agent/lawyer i would suggest you
get all the information and see for yourself.

the way it works is that in case of noc codes there are 4 digit

the leftmost digit gives the types of industry except in case of skill
level 0.

like 4XXX is for university/education etc related.
http://www23.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/2001/e/groups/index.shtml

the next digit has to be 1 or 2 ( I havnt paid much attention to the
skill code 0 ) for skill a and b
the last 2 digits are for the different professions which
you can brouse in the above link.

by the way i am no agent/lawyer. i dont practice either.

i am interested in immigration to canada, but with new rules
i found that there is total caos...a whole bunch of agents
are saying different things...so in april i decided to
do my own homework into this and find out what is exactly the
rule so that i can do some self evaluation.

doing my homework at least helps me to see where i stand and
also most importantly find out good agents/lawyers from the
masses.
