Soft Landing to activate PR
Hi,
I am expecting to have my COPR letter in next couple of days (had a message online this morning). Our plan is to move once the children finish their school year next summer however I would need to activate the PR before that.
I'm thinking of heading over for a week just to activate it and start some of the processes there, speak to the schools we are interested, apply for bank account etc.
If I travel with a week return ticket is this likely to cause any issues in immigration? We will be staying with family when we move across so I can use that address for the PR card.
Thanks

No problem with any of that. Have a read of wiki here

"Your Permanent Resident document(s) will expire one year after the date of your medical examinations or earlier if your passport or the passports of your spouse or dependant children (if applicable) expire on an earlier date. "
Where as the link suggest I can just take the old passport with me, not sure if I'm misreading the above ? has anybody recently activated their PR whilst travelling on a renewed/new passport?
Thanks

Thanks... one of the reasons why I was heading over now is that my passport expires in summer and have another trip planned before we leave. For this I need to renew my passport. Reading the following in the letter I recently received, I assumed travelling before the passport expired was a criteria:
"Your Permanent Resident document(s) will expire one year after the date of your medical examinations or earlier if your passport or the passports of your spouse or dependant children (if applicable) expire on an earlier date. "

Fine to travel on a new passport as long as you take the old passport with you and show both and the CoPR when you land. Coz the CoPR is linked in data to your old passport number. It is the 'Expiry Date' on your CoPR that matters, not how they determined that date (I assume you have your CoPR in your hands now?)

Got the COPR, so planning to fly across for a week to activate it. Planning on applying for SIN, bank account and pop into some of the local schools to enquire about places for the children. Would anybody recommend anything else that I should do this time round which would make life easier in the summer when we move across?

With regards to schools - they won't talk to you until you have an address.. and your child/ren will be assessed by the school board (which encompasses many schools, not just 1) per the link on your other thread.
