Default Skilled Worker - Work background reference

Hi,

We're looking to emmigrate to Canada and have been advices that my occupation might fit one of the occupations listed - specifically "Computer and Information Systems Managers".

I'm currently self employed, however I've been advised that if I can obtain a reference from a previous employer stating that I have carried out the majority of duties listed for the above role, that it should go a long way to helping to prove I have the required experience. I've contacted a recent employer who has said they are happy to help

However, my concern is that whilst I have carried out most ( though not all) of the duties listed in one form or another, my actual job title was totally different (I was a consultant at the time).

My question is, what should I put down as my job title then? Would putting my actual title prejudice my chances, even though in reality I do have the required experience....

I had a similar problem because whilst I applied as a Technical Sales Specialist, none of my jobs have ever had that title. I simply put down my job title then put "Technical Sales Specialist" in brackets next to it, I then put the NOC code. For all my jobs I have got the employer to do the job description so that it includes all the listed responsibilities/duties that are listed under that NOC code. I will explain the job titles to CIC with a cover letter for my work experience

Your job title Consultant comes under the classification of "Computer and Information Systems Managers" as long as your responsibilities/duties closely marry up to what it says on NOC.

I hope this helps- it is how I have tried to tackle the situation.

Mark, I had the same problem, I used my job title and put equal to the job title on the NOC list. I also got my boss to put the same on my reference letter to verify I wasn't making it up!

I think the important part is that you match the duties not the job title. Well I've got to the medical stage so assume they were happy with it
