Settled in Canada, Success Story
I have been daily reader of this newsgroup during my immigration
process and have contributed and asked various questions. I have
always got great helo from everybody here. Now that I am well settled
in Canada I would like to share my story with everyone, so people can
know that everything is not negative.
I am 29 years old Telecom Engineer with 5 years of experience (4 in
Europe) and am originally from Pakistan. I moved to Toronto, Canada
end of Feb. 2003 just 4 months ago from Belgium. I spent the first
month or so doing all the paper work for the SIN card health card
driving licence etc. I had already been talking to the company where I
worked in Belgium. I got an offer for a job and started working in May
on a 65k salary. I have also bought a house and moving in this
weekend. Finding a mortgage with no credit history was difficult but I
finally managed to convince a bank because I had a permanent job. Had
to pay 25% down though.
My experience so far has been really great. I fell in love with
Toronto from day one despite SARS and everything It is a great
place with all it's multicultural neighbourhoods and restaurants and
other places. The only thing that frustrates me having lived in
Germany and Belgium are the speed limits. I think the Govt and Police
has made driving a bigger nightmare with the Sword of a ticket always
hanging on your neck. People are too over cautious which creates more
traffic jams. I felt more comfortable driving in Germany at a 160km/h
then I do here at a 100.
So for me the Immigration has been the best decision I have ever made.
Now I dont have to think of work permits and extension of Visas every
year or every time there is a danger of a lay off like I did in
Europe. I can live with the satisfaction that I am a part of Canada
now and will be a Proud Canadian citizen in a few years. So Thank you
Canada and Happy Canada Day to everyone.
