Scottish / British Police Check

Hi
We are about to get the ball rolling for citizenship and have a question about the required police certificates.

Any U.K folk know if the Scottish gov disclosure is adequate, or does it have to be the British APCO certificate police check?

We only ever lived in Scotland before coming to Canada.

Thanks in advance

How to Get a Police Certificate - United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands)

Thanks

My question was concerning if the Scottish gov disclosure is same as the British check that link takes you to.

It's easier to get a hold of than the APCO check.

My answer was that IRCC request a specific document, and make clear that it applies wherever in the UK you are located. Your choice to ignore their instructions or not (strong advice: don't ignore their instructions).

No, its not the same, and its designed for a different purpose.

I think Disclosure Scotland is for people who may be in contact with vulnerable groups and who require clearance for that. That would be for example for people working with children or the disabled within Scotland

For those requiring clearance for EXTERNAL use the UK system is required. that would include those who need information for the Canadian authorities.

Even it was the "same" it wouldn't matter. IRCC request the ACRO certificate so that is what you should get.

Oh indeed, I agree. They as for ACRO ,that's what they want.

In fact, not every country insists on ACRO chceks for immigration, but those that do, which includes Aus and Canada, want the right check.
Disclosure Scotland works under completely different rules and is designed as a successor to the old police-based Child Access checks, which were taken over by the CRB,

Re: Scottish / British Police Check

Looks like we dont need a UK police certificate at all ( if I'm reading this right)

We have been here since Feb 2012,and it states on application we only need police checks for the " country we have been in for 183 days or more in the 4 years immediately before application "

Following the link further it tells me
"the canadian visa office will notify you if you need to do a Canadian criminal record check while the application is being processed "

So we don't need any type of criminal check with our initial application

Does this sound right to anyone of you who have been through this process?

Thanks

1. As you are applying for Citizenship not Immigration, you are correct, if you haven't resided in any country for more than 183 days in the 4 years prior to the application, then you don't require a police certificate. Although it is odd, that it is 4 years, while under the present Act it is residing in Canada for 4 of the previous 6 years.
