Default Returning to Canada after an interview

My husband is in Canada awaiting pr and his application was sent to Buffalo for review? He is currently in Canada on a year visitor permit (which we are in the process of extending). My question is: If he is requested to attend an interview and has to leave Canada to go to Buffalo, will he be let back into Canada? I know that once he crosses the boarder his current visitor permit is no longer applicable. Has anyone ever had to deal with this kind of situation? Do they generally let people back into the country a day or so after leaving? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, there is a 99.9% chance that he will be allowed in.
