Just an update. We have sold the house, flying back to Canada round about 21st November, Took the advice of SNOWY65 and spoke to IMM Lawyer in Vancouver (Costly) We are good to go as long as we do not spend 3 years or more outside of Canada, which would of course mean that we could not meet the residency requirements of two years in the five year period.

Sorry it was costly but IMO you've done the right thing.
Remember it's not just the time the immi lawyer/consultant spends advising you. If they are regulated (and so licensed to advise) they are responsible and accountable for the advice that they give you.

There is a very big difference between lawyers and consultants as can be seen from the relief obtained by those that used consultants that used to ply their trade on this site.

Thank you AC. I have used the person who is probably the foremost immigration lawyer - very expensive as you say, but he backs his advice with a financial guarantee. He was the one who got me into Canada 12 years ago.

Many thanks for your interest .

Please don't tar all immigration consultants with the same brush. There are several regulated consultants on this site who help out frequently. Not for any financial reward but just because now and again they're happy to help other Brits. Some of them reading this might just stop giving their time.

Thank you Snowy560, I think you are right to assert this - I have had no dealings with consultants so cannot comment on their expertise, but I do know that any person who gives valuable advice without fee is okay in my books and should be respected. No doubt there will be the occasional let down, but you would get that with lawyers too! Thank you to all consultants out there who offer there services pro bono.

But the OP is based in BC. Where, I have to admit, long sleeved shirts and possibly a light jacket are needed to survive a winter.

True.

We had considered Kelowna but the rental market is just as bad it seems as the LM and Fraser Valley, so we had to scratch it off our list of potentials.

Gentle reminder peeps - we try to keep the immi section of the forum on topic. Musings about Kelowna & Vancouver's rains should be in the main Canada forums.

Ta muchly.
