I am not sure if my original post showed up so here it goes again:
I am a Canadian citizen. My husband (from the USA) applied for PR a year
ago. His file has been transfered to Scarborough; it will be at least 18
months before they assign our file to a case worker.
My question is this: we have been told that if my husband can find a job
that is HRDC acceptable, he can go to Buffalo and apply for awork permit.
Right now he is on an extended visitors visa that does NOT guarantee
re-entry.
1. IF he goes to Buffalo, how likely is it that he will be allowed re-entry?
2. Will applying for a work permit involve going through all the medicals
again?
3. Will applying for a work permit change the status of his PR application?
Thanks for your time.

I think you should find out why it was ent to Scarborough. Obtain a
copy of the FOSS notes by making a Privacy request for the FOSS notes.
If you do not know how contact me at [email protected] and I wil
provide you the forms and procedures.

I would be cautious of this approach as Buffalo takes a dim view of
doing this.

Not necessarily of his med was done in the past 12 months

No. Again I think you shuld see why he was sent to Scarberia. You can
also contact your MPs office and ask them to look into the matter. In
addition canhe qualify under Nafta for a visa. You have a roblem of
undetermined origin and you should address this problem first.

We have the FOSS notes and are waiting for a manual from our MP to interpret
them. My understanding (from the call centre)is that our file was sent to
Scarborough to check the bonafides of our marriage.
The MP's assistant has told us that Chris can get a work permit by going to
Buffalo. We ware worried thought about re-entry and any changes to his
status and application.
We are fighting to get an open work permit. The application was sent in a
year ago; as of December 2002 we were told we had a wait of 18-24 months,
way to long for him to not be able to work.
Thanks for you time
