Rescinding - (Giving up Canadian Perm Residence status)
Has anyone ever renounced their canadian PR or Citizenship status?

Lots of people give up PR. The steps are:
- move somewhere else
- don't come back for five years

Yeah that is a method. (I would do that if I could.....)
I suppose I should clarify. I'm looking more for shared experiences of the time the process took. i.e. How long after you send the forms away to CIC that you received word back..

Isn't step 1 essential? You can't make yourself non-resident if you're resident. Are you in another country wanting to formally end your ties with Canada before they time out?

Why would I not be able to renounce my PR whilst still here?
As per the IRCC website, once renounced I would then become a temporary resident / visitor, and have a 6months to leave....

What's the point of that? If you do nothing, you can leave and, if you change your mind, you can stay. Renouncing without leaving just seems like limiting your options for no obvious advantage.

Obviously you do but now you've sparked our curiousity. Can you become a citizen withour PR ? I suppose with enough years resident you could, but to stay in Canada you'd need another visa. Can you get citizenship if you aren't resident?
