Default Renewing PR Cards

Our application to renew our PR cards was submitted August 2021…over 8 months ago. We wrote to CIC enquiring about the status last week. Received a ‘do not reply’ email saying it is still being processed. When we look on their website, there is no trace of our application. Can anyone suggest how we can contact a real person, as opposed to sending an email, which results in a standard computer generated reply?

My suggestion would be to go through your local MP's office. That's what I had to do when chasing up citizenship applications for family that were in limbo for 2-3 years.

Thanks. That’s exactly what I said to hubby yesterday. Will give it a few days than try that route.

I had actually forgotten that we did not have current PR cards. We entered Canada by air in March and again in April. The first time nothing was said, the last time the Officer pointed out the cards had expired end of Jan 2022. AFAIK we can still enter via a land crossing, but not by air.

Hi, Where did you travel from/to with expired cards. I alwas assumed you needed a PR Travel Document. Was it plain sailing?

Since you are a PR they still have to let you in at the border even with an expired card. Where most people have trouble is getting the airline to let them on the plane without an eTA. Aka actually getting TO the border to be allowed in. Since you have US passports, this is a non-issue as Americans do not need eTA. Say you are flying Can-UK. When you travel back to Canada just use your US passport and they will let you on the plane, the airline likely will not even bother asking about PR card. If they do, either be honest and say its expired and you are awaiting renewal, or just say you are flying in to Toronto and driving to the US.

Yes we could board a flight to Canada as US citizens…but we would have to enter Canada as PR’s. I suppose it is down to the Imm. Officer upon entry…we could carry the paperwork as proof that our applications were sent in August 2021. Also 2 emails to CIC, plus their bog standard computer generated reply. We have also written to our MP…again a computer generated reply. The standard reply seems to blame Covid for the delays and advises that we can log in online to view our application…to which there is no trace.

I would let you in if I was still working at a POE there again coming from Yorkshire I might have to find a way of denying you entry. The whole travel situation is a mess and something needs to be done.

The issue of PR cards taking forever has existed well before covid unfortunately. It's an IRCC issue. Their processing is notoriously slow, and unacceptable in this day and age.

9 month delay now. It is so frustrating that you cannot speak to anyone or get a human written reply. We believe our application has been lost. Probably due to it being actual paperwork, not electronic, and people working from home shuffling papers back and to. Last week we sent another application, with a covering letter stating the original was sent last August and we believe it has gone astray.

1. Your card is obviously lost, as the posted processing time for renewals is 70 days.

I don’t think the card is lost because there is no trace of processing when we look online. I think the original paperwork was lost. Probably due to it being sent out to someone working from home to process.

Given the excessive delay time, one would think they would automatically extend the expiry date on PR cards, just as they have done for NEXUS.

CIC must know it’s our wedding anniversary today. We received an email confirming receipt of our renewal application. Which means we should receive our new cards in approx. 1 month.

We re-applied about 5 weeks ago. 60 day processing time is now quoted from date received.
