Thanks Former Lancastrian
You are absolutely right about waiting for a reply! It's like waiting for Xmas though...never had any patience

My passport is expiring the same time as Fizzy and I was told about the six month issue from the embassy. And one of my friends had the same problem. He and his family had to just leave everything and land to complete the process. They came back a few days later to finish up some lose ends.

However as Monday is a holiday, flights get more expensive and harder to get nearer to departure date, especially in July. The next work day in Canada (and overseas consulates) is July 3rd. Does not leave long to book flights! I would take no chances, book a vacation, have a week or two in Canada and enjoy it. Fly to the lowest cost destination to activate PR,

That is not correct, Canada has no Immigration rule that your passport must be valid for more than 6 months after your date of entry.

Folks, I am just telling you from personal experience. I even called immigration and they confirmed the passport must have at least six months from expiration date. You can also call the airline and ask them about it.

Let's not make it an issue, just email the embassy to get confirmation.

Part of us thinks just get it done BUT a few probs

Our jobs -wife is a teacher so can just imagine asking to go on hols just before 6 weeks off. If she throws a sicky (god fobid!) she must be back before end of term otherwise has to have provide doctor's note

Money- Not really got £3000 pounds lying about for spending, particularly if we have to show proof of funds- anyone got $20,654 we can borrow

For those of us who are forum regulars, we know that PMM is the 'confirmation'.

That 6 month rule refers to temporary visa holders only. PR visa holders are just as PMM says!

Just to say we have heard nothing yet. We are going to wait until Friday and then fly out next week to activate. Would that be a record? 9 days from receiving COPR in England to activating?

Have been frantically completing goods to follow list-focuses the mind somewhat when your time frame goes from 8 months to 9 days!!

Well done. Not a record though, I seem to recall somebody on the forum last year that had 4 days to land - and they managed it!

Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

WELL!!! we had a PHONE CALL at 9 o'clock this morning from London to say an error had been made!!!
A non accompanying daughter's passport had caused the early COPR and if we send the forms back it will be amended to our expected February landing. PHEW!!!
Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

It had to be an error. Now you can relax.
