Default RCMP Check, Working Holiday

Hi-

I have a hypothetical question. My long-term boyfriend is in Canada on a one-year working holiday visa. We are talking about getting married before the year is up (not out of convenience!), but realistically, now that he knows he could live here, we would like to get married and we don't want to wait for another year to complete the PR process. Assuming we do get married in the next 6 months, I am confused about the Canadian criminal record check - is this something he needs to do, only at the 6 month mark of being in Canada? Can he do it before he has been in Canada for 6 months, to avoid a long wait? OR, can we send in the PR application, while the check is processing, or must we have it in hand before submitting the application? Obviously the one from his home country is straightforward, but I am confused about the Canadian side of things, is it necessary? and if so, at what stage should he apply for it, seeing as how he hasn't been here for more than a couple of months.

Sorry I can't be of much assistance - my partner and I sent off our PR application without the Canadian criminal record check, as it didn't occur to us that I needed one (thought it was just the places you'd lived before coming to/outside Canada). I've been here a year, btw. We got a letter from the CIC saying our application was okay and has been passed on to Quebec - no mention of the lack of check. They do say they do their own checks, but I don't know if I'm supposed to send a check in anyway or if it's okay as it is. If anyone could answer your question maybe things would be a bit clearer! However, I don't think you can do it before the 6 month mark as it does clearly say you have to have been there 6 months.
