Default Quick enquiry about Proof of Funds for CIC Application

My spouse and I are starting to make an application to immigrate into Canada. I have a question regarding the Proof of Settlement funds. The CIC Document Checklist states that these funds must be 'unencumbered, easily transferable', whereas there's a link with this statement to their website where it's stated that the funds 'could be in the form of... documents that show property payable to you'.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use our house as capital for the settlement funds, and if so, what documents do we need to provide to show its value?

We're attempting to make the application ourselves without employing a specialist law firm, but we may need to purchase specific advice from a professional along the way. Does anyone know of any immigration lawyers who can offer such a service?

Hi, and welcome.

If you're applying via the London visa office, you can use equity in your property for the initial application - note though that London is the only visa office to allow this, and that when you land the money must be instantly accessible e.g. in a bank account.

If you want to use equity, then you'll need to supply a mortgage statement, and 2 or 3 estate agents valuations.

And re: consultancy, most immi consultants will do consultations on an 'as needed' basis for an hourly rate. Bet you don't need it now you've found this forum though!

Best of luck with it.

P.S. The bit on the proof of funds page you mention is actually referring to the $10k limit for customs, and what counts towards that, not the proof of finds requirement.

HTH.

Hehe.... hmmm

And so it starts: only 3 days into filling in the application form and already more questions arise...

Regarding the credentials assessment (ECA), I have my Bachelor's from Iran, and 2 Masters from a Swedish uni. Iranian universities are notoriously unhelpful and slow, and are very unlikely to send the required documents to the relevant organisations in Canada. Do you think it's possible to leave out the Ba and just get Sweden to send in the Ma's? After all, a Master's implies you have a degree, right?
