I will be moving for good to Calgary in 01/2004(I have my PR card and SIN card). I will be driving from Texas to Calgary.
Health Care Insurance
--------------------------------
I can get the form online to apply for it from:
http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/coverage/ahcip/forms.html
and then take it to: 727 - 7 Ave SW, Calgary
Is that it? What about the other Supplements, like: Blue Cross Palliative Care Drug Program or Alberta Blue Cross Non-group Coverage?
Driving License
----------------------
Where do I change my license? Do I just take my US driving license to any “Registry Agent and get it changed?
Car Insurance
---------------------
Any recommendation on Car Insurance companies in Calgary?
Cell Phone
-----------------
Any recommendation on cell phone companies and planes in Calgary?
Cable Modem or DSL
-------------------
Any recommendation on Cable Modem or DSL providers in Calgary?
IT Jobs in Calgary
--------------------------
Any recommendations? Advice? Suggestions? Web sites? Companies?
Or even a good place to find a quick job, any job to pay the bills?

I'll try to answer some of your questions, with links included...

Any registry agent should be able to do it: http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/
> Car Insurance
Get a quote from many different insurance companies at
http://www.kanetix.com/
> Cell Phone
I've had no problems with Fido: http://www.fido.ca , however all
providers have good coverage so it's down to choice of phone and plans.
> Cable Modem or DSL
I've been with Nucleus for 3 years now - excellent DSL service. Avoid
Shaw if possible (they are the local cable company) - they have poor
customer service and their products are no better. For TV service, I
recommend Bell ExpressVu.
Hope it helps.

Simon answered your other questions, but I'll give my two cents on the following one ...
> Cable Modem or DSL
> -------------------
> Any recommendation on Cable Modem or DSL providers in Calgary?
Telus, the landline phone company, also provides DSL. It works great for me. I use it for several hours per day. By the way, you can
pick your own long distance company instead of being tied to Telus. Primus suited my needs better. I had Shaw cable internet in my
previous place, and it was 3 times faster on my timed downloads of a certain file of 1MB but had the very occasional interruption in
service of a few minutes (maybe once every two weeks). Since continuous service is important for me I took the opportunity to change
to Telus DSL when I moved house. I have no problems with Shaw Cable for TV. No need for a satellite dish.

IT jobs are few and far between in Calgary. The jobs that do exist are
usually recruited by employees who 'know somebody else who can turn on a
computer'.
I'm being serious too. If you do find a IT job, don't expect it to pay
more than peanuts. The best way to succeed in this city is to start
your own business.
As for quick jobs to pay the bills... ? Best to look at the local
newspapers when you get here (Herald, Sun). Plenty of call-center jobs.
You could try the calgary.jobs newsgroup, but it's usually spam or
off-topic.
