Default Question re: TWP and applying for PR

Hi, my husband heard from HR in a Canadian company that if we come to Canada on a TWP and apply for permanent residency that we would not be allowed to leave the country for a year? Has anyone heard of this??

I find it hard to believe that you'd be made to stay put for a year when you can come and go as you please on a TWP - how does applying for PR affect that?

Any more info on this would be gratefully appreciated!

(our background - husband has been offered a job in Toronto [we're in London], LMO came back positive, we're waiting for formal job offer in writing then will be applying for TWP and hoping to be in Toronto by the summer [provided we can sell our flat!!])

Another thought - how difficult would it be to get PR status after arriving on a TWP? Because we're already there and living/working does it make it easier?

Thanks!

No such rule. If you qualify, you qualify, although you get additional points for working for 1 year in Canada.

Sorry, do you mean no such rule that you can't leave the country during the time of being on a TWP and filing for PR status? (wasn't sure if you meant that or that there's no rule that it's easier to get PR coming in on a TWP!)

1. There is no rule that you can't leave Canada for 1 year.
2. The only "easier" part of applying with a TWP is that if you don't qualify on the list of "38" the employer can submit a letter stating that they will employ you permanently once, you are granted PR. And, as I said that you will get 15 points in adaptability. It will not speed up you application.
