Default Question for Americans here

One thing about applying for Canadian PR makes me a bit nervous.

Given the, er, mindset of the Bush administration right now, and the
rah-rah nationalism of some conservatives in the government, am I going to
be hassled or harassed by the American government if they figure out, or
when they find out, I'm trying to immigrate to Canada? A few years ago
this wouldn't bother me (hell, my uncle did it at one time) but I don't
know how Americans trying to immigrate *now* might be viewed by the current
administration. Not too tolerant of dissension are they...

Frenchy, not trying to emigrate for political reasons anyway...

I am an American immigrating to Canada, and I can tell you that the
Administration would not care less in where you going, unless you hurt
yourself or become a terrorist in the process.

hgjura, disco-slamdancing to Barry Manilow through the newsgroup, got down
and funky and cried:

Just making sure, folks here have told stories about being hassled at the
border by American customs people, as just one example.
