Default Question about landing funds on landing as immigrant

Hello all,

I am planning to go to toronto in June as I have received my immigration visa. I have a question about the money that I need to take (Proof of funds / landing funds).

I need to take C$ 13801 as there are 2 of us immigrating.

Can I take it all in cash or is there a limit to how much cash (Canadian dollar) that I can take.

I am planning to take C$ 5000 cash + C$5000 in traveller cheques and $4000 as bank draft.

Is there a limit on how much CASH I can take? I guess the only disadvantage to taking cash is that I could lose it whereas draft and TC will be safer. Is there any other advantage. Does anyone have any advice about landing funds.

I saw this page - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigra...lled/funds.asp - and they dont specifically mention any limit on cash.

Thanks in advance

anu

You don't have to actually take the money required, just prove that you have it. So a recent bank statement will be fine.

There is no limit on money being brought to Canada - but amount over $10,000 in total (in any form - cash, cheques, etc.) must be reported as per rules in almost all developed countries. It only needs to be declared, nothing else - there is no tax or anything else involved.

As has been said, you do not have to take all the money in cash, as recent bank statements are enough.

It is good to have some money in cash as it takes time to transfer funds, and there will probably be a hold period if you pay a UK cheque into a canadian bank account.

I must say that I did not feel safe carrying a large amount of cash, as I was worried all the time that it might get lost or stolen.

Sure, but you must be able to tell them the value in Canadian Dollars.
