Default Question about a criminal record.....

I was wondering if somebody here could answer a question or two for me....
I am planning to apply for immigration under the family class (CP) .... I feel that everything should go well (plenty of proof of relationship...etc....) except I have one concern. Right after I turned 18, I made a really bad (stupid) choice. I was arrested for shoplifitng. This is the only mark on my record... It has also been over 7 years ago. I havent been in any other trouble. In fact, I now work in a pharmacy and am getting my license. Is this going to have a negative impact on my application? Is there anything I can do about it?

The arerest is not the issue it is what happened next. Did you appear
in court and were yuo convicted of the offence. Some jurisdictions
ahve first offender laws by which you are not convicted. Contact the
Police Department and/or the court and determione what the disposition
of the case before doing anything else.

I did go to court and stand before a judge. I plead no contest and was given a conditional sentence and a couple of days of community service along with a minor fine. Is this going to make a major difference in what happens with my application? This happend when I was 18, it was 7 years ago. I made a bad choice, payed the price and havent done anything else wrong. Please shed a little bit of light on this for me.

Get a copy of the court record and consult a criminal lawyer in the
state to determine if a conviction was entered. You could also go to
the police to determine if there is a record of the offence. The key
word is conviction!!

Okay, maybe I wasnt very clear earlier.... Let me try again. I was CONVICTED of misdemeanor shoplifting 7 years ago, I stood before a judge and plead no contest. Now my question is: Is this going to have a big negative impact on my application, and if so, is there anyything I can do about it?

Yes it will impact your case as your are probably inadmissible to
Canada. I say probably because I have seen no docments on which to
make give an opinion. You can apply for MInisterial Consent under
the Immigration Act due to the passage of time. You will probably
require professional help to do this. Start by collecting documents.
