Default Quebec Health Insurance Card(Need Experts Advice)

Dear Experts,

My intended destination on my COPR form is Montreal, Quebec but i've
decided to move to Toronto after a week or so. I need some clarification
about Quebec Medicare which i m sure will be answered by people here.

I know that Quebec has a three month waiting period before one becomes
eligible for the Medical Coverage. So Is it mandatory to stay in Quebec
for three months to get the card? Or One can give the address of a
friend where the card will be sent and he himself can move to other
province say after a week?

Secondly, can i use my Quebec Health Card in any other province if i
permanently decide to settle in Toronto, Ontario? If not, than what is
the procedure i will have to follow for surrendering the previous one of
Quebec and getting a new card for Toronto?

I'd be glad if i will be given as much information as one could. And
yes, unlike Health Card, PR and SIN card can be applied from any
province. Right?

Thanks.
Sair.

If you have no intention to live in Quebec and want to move to Ontario week
after landing then don't even apply for Quebec health coverage as such is
available only to those who reside in the Province. Apply for health card
(OHIP) in Ontario or whatever Province you will settle in. And yes, you may
apply for SIN and the rest in Ontario.

Mr.Miller,

Thanks a ton for your response. You've always been very helpful.

I'd really be glad if you share your knowledge for the following
points.

1. After completing all landing procedures in Montreal, can i move
to Toronto the very next day.? And will it be wise to land in Montreal
directly or land in Toronto and get a connecting Flight to Montreal?
I've heard that the landing formalities are completed at the first
Port of Entry. So what option will be better?

2. I've decided to reside in Toronto and apply for (OHIP) instead
of Montreal and having a CSQ ,but what if i get a Job Offer say after
6 months from any other Province, then will i've to have a new health
card made by that Province?

3. Will it be wise to get Private Insurance for three waiting
months considering that i m single and healthy?

Thanks in Advance.
Sair.

1. You may go directly to Toronto although with CSQ your intentions may be
questioned, so it will be safer to land in Quebec and then very same day you
may move to Ontario.

2. Health services are the responsibility of Provinces and available only to
residents of particular Province. Once you move out of Province your
existing health plan will cover you only for up to 3 months to give you
enough time to obtain health plan in the Province you moved to.

3. Better to be safe than sorry...

Quebec is one of the few provinces that covers immigrants from the
time they make their application. However you said that you intend to
move outside the province.

Because you will have just received your card. Quebec will not pay
for your healthcare after you have moved to Ontario. From what I
understand normally your previous province pays the healthcare for the
first three months in the new province and after that you will be
covered by your new province of residence. However (and I can only
speak for Quebec) you have to have lived in the province for at least
three months before you would be covered for moving. So you may as
well just apply as soon as you arrive in Ontario, as applying for a
Quebec health card will not be of any use.
