Qualifying as common-law with no joint, fixed abode
Hi, lovely bunch.
I have been living in Calgary with my Canadian partner since last September and we are in the process of completing the forms for common-law spousal sponsorship.
For some background, my partner and I met online in 2016 while I was travelling. She left Canada and come and meet me in Asia where we traveled for a number of months before spending a year together in the UK. In the UK we stayed with my family so never had a joint lease agreement, paid any joint bills or had any need to open a joint bank account. We have been living in our own apartment, with a joint lease agreement, for the past 6 months but before that nothing was in both of our names.
My question is, will the CIC be satisfied that we became common-law 12 months after she arrived in Asia, even though for a lot of that time we were moving around with no fixed abode or in the UK living with family?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. It's really comforting to have the information on this forum at hand and to know that others have trodden the path before me. So thank you. You're a good bunch
Edward.
