Default Prob Daft Q - Do Citizenships expire?

Hello peeps...

This may be a daft question which results in many humorous responses.. BUT..........

My mother gained Canadian Citizenship in the late 60's / early 70's, prior to me be born...

Since 1979 we haven't lived in Canada, but I'm 99% sure I'm going to move back there next summer for good.

My mother is a widow, and my brother lives in Texas now, and I'm pretty sure she will, in time, move to be with one of us.

So - my question is, does her citizenship card still allow her to move back to Canada without any of the paperwork of immigration?

Cheers for the help.

B

Yes, she will be able to return although I would suggest getting a Canadian passport for that purpose when the time comes.

It's not a completely daft question. In the past, naturalised Canadian citizens who left for 10 years could lose their Canadian citizenship unless they made a specific application to retain it.

This was repealed in 1967 and therefore no-one who left after 1957 should worry about it.
