Default PR Issued for dependant

I have been issued a Immigrant visa from the Consulate in UK. I qualified as a dependant on my mothers application, which was filed in UK. I am in the US, been here for the last 5 years. Initially I was a student, so I was included in the application, I am not studying anymore, and I turned 22 just a couple months before being issued the permanent visa.

My question is this: I live in Buffalo, NY, USA and I want to visit Canada and look for apartments before my mother arrives. Is this possible. Will I be able to enter as a landed immigrant before my mother arrives? Or will I need a temporary visit visa?

Any help is much appreciated.

You cannot land before your mother. You must land either at the same time as she does or after her. However, you could enter Canada as a visitor and check out the apartment situation etc.
