I have a Canadian PR and would be landing in Canada soon. When
can I apply for my famiy members for Canadian PR? As soon as
I get a job with enough income or do I have to wait at least
a year?

What family members? The only ones you will be able to sponsor are your
parents.

You will be able to start the process as soon as you earn the required
minimum income (within 12 or less months) in Canada after becoming a PR.

It depends from the size of your family and number of people you want to
sponsor. Below is the current LICO table - you first calculate the size of
your family unit. Family unit consist of yourself (the sponsor), plus your
spouse and all dependants, plus number of people to be sponsored. For
example if you are single (no spouse and no children) and want to sponsor
both parents then your family unit size is 3 (1 + 2), thus you need to earn
in Canada at least $29,290 after becoming a PR and within 12 months prior to
sponsorship application.

Low Income Cut-off Table - effective until February 1, 2004

Size of Family Unit - Minimum necessary income

2 persons - $23,551
3 persons - $29,290
4 persons - $35,455
5 persons - $39,633
6 persons - $43,811
7 persons - $47,988
each additional person - $4,178

Is it necessary to earn the LICO in Canada, what if you are carrying the money with you when you Land ?

Is LICO also required when sponsoring wife who had been listed as Non-accompanying spouse when PR was granted as Skilled Worker ?

Yes, income must be earned from Canadian sources after sponsor becomes a PR.
There is an exemption for those who reside in Canada but commute every day
to work in US - they may use their US earned income as long as it is
reported in Canadian tax return. Money you bring with you when landing (or
even after landing) that is not a Canadian income earned after landing will
not count, regardless how much you bring.

When sponsoring a spouse you are exempted from LICO requirement.

But your question raised a follow up question. You wrote that your spouse
was included as non-accompanying dependant in your application - did she
pass medicals during your application process? If she didn't undergo
medicals then she is no longer member of family class and thus cannot be
sponsored.

After becoming PR, how long one has to wait to sponsor one's spouse.Is it necessary to get PR card before sponsoring his/her spouse.

If you are not a Canadian PR residing in Canada then you cannot sponsor
anyone. So yes - you must first land in Canada as a PR and establish your
residence here before being able to sponsor spouse.

But if you got married before applying or during the process and didn't
include your spouse in your application then your spouse cannot be sponsored
at all. More - you cannot land as a PR if PR visa was issued to you as a
single and in the meantime you got married without adding your spouse to the
process.

Thank you Mr Miller, for answering my query. Here is another one.What if, one includes name of his/her spouse (as non accompanied family member) at the time of application and want to sponsor after landing in canada.Should he/she waits till he/she gets PR card.

Such non-accompanying spouse will have to undergo medicals at the same time
as applicant and pass them in order to be eligible to be sponsored later.

Once person lands in Canada as a PR and establishes residency here s/he may
start sponsorship process of the spouse. Note that there is no minimum
income requirement to be met when sponsoring a spouse, but sponsor must
demonstrate financial ability to support himself/herself and sponsored
spouse in Canada. It is rather tough to demonstrate shortly after landing
and without any job.

But why bother? Why not include spouse as accompanying dependant in the
first place? Why some people try to complicate so simple matters?

Andrew Non Accompanying Spouse
 

Andrew Miller this relates to your question on Non Accompanying Spouse who attended medical with me. This saves lot of money as application fee, Landing fee, Tickets & settlement. Since it takes 36 months, its good enough time to change your mind. Even if you donot you are not sure if U will be happily settled. I am about to get immigration after wait of 30 months but am told that there is no demand for IT Guys like me while India(my country) is flooded with IT work.
Now Do I loose my career or my immigration ?
