PR Expired applying for another work visa.

To cut a long story short. I have an expired PR card which expired nearly 4 years ago, I however wouldn't have been able to renew it back in 2017 anyway due to not meeting the residency obligation at the time. An old employer has a new project they are looking to start 2022 (covid permitting) and wants me to head the project and has offered to sponsor me.

Am I right in thinking my only option is to renounce my PR and put in a fresh work visa application once we are back to normality?

Cheers

To add to FL's response, just to say that you don't need to wait to put in a visa application, work permits are still being processed and if you had one, you are able to travel to Canada.

HTH.
