Default PR card Issue

I am canadian Permanent resident since 2002, I m doing a job right now out of Canada. I want to apply for PR card but the problem is I can't stay there for more than 20 days. So let me know will they deliver it onto my friend's address or I should be Physically present in Canada to pick up my card.

Also let me know how much time CIC is giving to pick up the card. I was also planning to come back and then enter in canada again for Picking up the card if they don't deliver onto my friend's address.

Pls reply me if u have gone through this process.

Thanks

You have to pick up the card in person on the date they assign to you in the pick-up letter (mailed 2 weeks prior so you get about 10-12 days notice). You must show your landing papers, passport, and another photo ID and you have to sign for the card. They do stamp your landing papers "not valid for travel" as well. It took about a month and a half for me to get my pick-up letter, but I applied in December so the holidays may have slowed things down.

Why bother? You don't need a PR Card to travel to Canada until the end of
2003. If your intention is to return to Canada after 2003 then simply apply
for Travel Document through Canadian visa post in the country you are in.
Having a PR Card won't save you from the 2/5 residency obligation anyway...

How much is a travel document, and will it be good for travel when the law says
PR card needed to go back to Canada through public carriers?

Thanks everyone for replying. Could u pls tell me if I did not pick up the card on specified date then can I pick up later I mean after one or two months.
Also let me know what is maximum duration to pick up the card. If I don't pick up the card, will they destroy it and I'll have to apply again.
Thanks.

WIth Best Wishes

Someone else posted this info earlier this week. You can't show up at your leisure, you have to come when they give you an appointment. If you miss the first they send you a second or you can request a new one but they won't guaranteed a specific date or even week. I forget how long you have to get it before it is destroyed, but it was either 3 or 6 months.

Default Confused about the PR Card

I was under the impression that they mail the PR card to you at an address that you provide in Canada.

In my case I was planning to land this month and then come back to Boston the next day as I have school here. I plan to go back to Canada later this year. In that case can one re enter Canada as our passport will be stamped not valid for travel?

I'm so confused. Please Help. Thank You

If you land after June 2002, they mail the card for you and you have to have it to get back in Canada since your landing papers are stamped "not valid for travel". If you leave before you get it, you need to have it sent to a friend in Canada who can mail it to you or apply for a one time travel permit to get back in.

Thank You for repyling,

What if I land this month in March? In that case if I give them a friend's address will they be able to mail the PR card to me there? How long is it taking right now to recieve the PR Card?
Sorry for asking so many times but I am worried that they will not mail the PR Card to me as I cannot stay in Canada till I receive it as I have to come back to school.

Thank you once again for all your help.
